Clean Bottles & Feeding: Glass, Steel, Silicone

Illustration of B the bee for Clean Bottles & Feeding: Glass, Steel, Silicone

Bees store honey in wax, not plastic. Feeding gear is the highest-contact surface in a baby’s day — so it’s the smartest swap.

The swap order

1) Heat: never microwave or heat milk in plastic. 2) Bottles: borosilicate glass or stainless steel with silicone sleeves. 3) Nipples: medical-grade silicone. 4) Later: stainless or silicone plates and cups. “BPA-free” alone doesn’t mean bisphenol-free — look for glass or steel.

Study glowA 2020 Nature Food study estimated polypropylene bottles can shed microplastics when prepared with hot water — rinsing with cool sterilized water and cooling formula in glass reduces it.
